About Spades

Spades is the trick-taking classic where every hand starts with a promise. Bid your tricks, team up with your partner and use the mighty spades to outscore the table, round after round.

How to play

Team up with Kim against Rob and Mia. Each player receives 13 cards, then bids how many tricks they expect to win. Your bid and your partner’s bid form your team’s contract. Aim to reach the selected target score; the default is 500 points.

The player left of the dealer leads the first trick. Tap a card when it is your turn, following the led suit whenever possible. If you cannot follow suit, you may play another suit, including a spade. Spades are always trump: the highest spade wins, or, if no spade is played, the highest card of the led suit wins. The winner leads next. Spades cannot be led until broken by being played on another suit, unless your hand contains only spades.

Meet your team’s contract to earn 10 points per trick bid, plus 1 point for each extra trick, called a bag. Miss the contract and lose 10 points per trick bid. With bag penalties enabled, every 10 accumulated bags costs 100 points.

When enabled, Nil means bidding to take no tricks: succeed for 100 points, or lose 100 if you take a trick. Optional Blind Nil doubles that bonus or penalty and is disabled by default.
